A demonstration by residents of Kingsville Number 7, Margibi County protesting against the killing of two boys for ritual purposes has led to violent clashes with riot police, resulting into one death and several injuries.
The riot police allegedly fired live bullets to disperse demonstrators who had set road blocks to demonstrate against the killing of two boys for ritual purposes.
The demonstration took place on Monday, June 24, around 12:00 p.m. in the Kingsville Number 7 community.
The boys, age 10 and 14, who were reported missing for several days in early June, were later discovered dead with body parts missing. According to residents who spoke to the media, the private part of the boys’ corpse was extracted, while an eye was extracted from the other.
Residents told local media that police arrested three “prime suspects”, who were allegedly released by the police on grounds of insufficient evidence.
According to a source, “Police fired several rounds of AK-47 to disperse the demonstrators, who were reportedly throwing stones at the police. One person is said to be shot dead and several reportedly wounded.
