The Chief Medical Officer of Liberia Dr. Francis Kateh has announced the immediate suspension of all outreach vaccination services in communities across the Country.
The outreach vaccination among other things is normally done in communities by health workers among children for several sicknesses including measles, Small Pox and many others.
The latest and timely decision by the Government according to Dr. Kateh is to take prompt action to erase the current rumors in Montserrado and Margibi Counties that health workers are now giving vaccines to children in local communities that can cure the Corona Virus something he termed as false and misleading.
“Wrong and misleading information, there is no vaccine discovered for Corona Virus, he emphasized.
Dr. Kateh warned health workers to put to a halt routine services in Communities until at the appropriate time.
Currently he told reporters that communications have been send across the Country to health authorities to ensure that they abide by the new mandate from national Government.
The move is to among other things allow health workers and authorities give more focus and priorities in the current fight against the Corona Virus crisis.
The Liberian Chief Medical Officer re-echoed to the general public not to give credence to false and misleading information especially on social media including “They-Say” and I-Say noting by encouraging them to only take seriously confirmed information about the health crisis coming from Central Government including the Ministry of Health, The National Public Health Institute of Liberia, Information Ministry and all other appropriate authorities respectively.
Dr. Kateh assured Liberians that they are working tirelessly around the clock to bring to an end the crisis but was quick to add that the support from the public by following all preventive health measures and protocols including reporting suspected cases in communities to the proper health authorities will all go a long way in the fight against the virus.
He stressed that misinformation should be discouraged by all Liberians in order to battle the health crisis collectively.
