In the wake of concerns and confusion in the public on the composition of the current joint security team, Police Spokesman Moses Carter has clarified that members of the joint Security team are those who are directly supervised by the Ministry of Justice headed by Cllr. Frank Musa Dean.
Mr. Carter named; The Liberia National Police, the Liberia Immigration Service, the Liberia National Fire Service, Bureau of Corrections and the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency are those who are specifically part of the joint security team and should be implementing the measures.
According to him municipal police officers are not part of the joint security team but are also carry out their strategic and respective municipal duties mainly city ordinances and their code functions.
However, he noted that municipal police officers are instructed not to implement the measures neither should they be seen running behind people in various communities.
The Police Spokesman stressed that all members of the joint security team are under straight mandate to enforce the safety measures but in respect of the dignity and human rights of the people and must be uniformed at all times.
He acknowledge that there are some challenges in the line of their current duties but they are working tirelessly to address them.
Mr. Carter also disclosed that they have arrested some officers who were caught impersonating and are in police custody.
Moses disclosed that the joint security team members are visible in the four Counties to include: Montserrado, Margibi, Nimba and Grand Kru Counties and are working to help safe lives in the Country.
As of press time, the stay home mandate has entered Day four and will climax on April 24, 2020 in the four Counties, until that time, Liberians have been encouraged to abide by the measures in order to help safe lives and contain the further spread of the virus, Carter, noted.
