The Liberian Senate Committee on Autonomous Agencies, Thursday conducted confirmation hearings for heads of the National Elections Commission Designate.
Those nominated by President George Weah are Hon. Davidetta Brown Lansanah as Chairperson, and Cllr. Teplah Reeves as Co-Chairperson.
It can be recalled on April 3,2020 President Weah nominated Hon. Davidetta Browne Lansanah as Co-Chairperson of the NEC alone with four Commissioners.
Upon nomination as Co-Chairperson weeks after, the Liberian Senate confirmed Davidetta Browne-Lasanah on April 10, 2020.
The Liberian leader has again nominated Cllr. Davidetta Browne Lasanah as the Chairperson of National Elections Commission.
The nomination which is subject to confirmation is now in Senate Committee on Autonomous Agencies pending results after hearings were conducted Thursday, July 9, 2020.
Also nominated as Co- Chairperson at the National Elections Commission is Cllr. Teplah Reeves who was quizzed during confirmation hearings.
According to the NEC Chairperson Designate Davidetta Browne Lasanah, upholding the core values of the election body will be her priority because it is the center for upholding Liberia’s democracy.
Additionally, the Co-Chairperson Designate Cllr. Teplah Reeves assured the Senate Committee of a collaborative working environment in serving the Liberia people.
Cllr. Reeves said her confidence to serving at NEC comes from her many attributions of good performances in the private and public sectors even at the level of civil society.
She said the National Elections Commission under their watch will serve all parties fairly without fear or favor.
Meanwhile, Bong County Senator Henry Tokpa, who is heading the Senate Committee on Autonomous Agencies told the nominees that the committee will dialogue with political parties before arriving at a decision.
