A two Day orientation workshop for members of the County Civilian complaints Reviews Committees in Six of the fifteen counties in Liberia has ended in Margibi County.
The Liberia National Law Enforcement Association (LINLEA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the Civilian Complaints Review Board (CCRB) is conducting the training.
Counties that benefiting are Bomi, Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa, Margibi and Nimba counties.
The Two Days orientation workshop commenced on Wednesday September 2, 2020 ended today Thursday September 3, 2020 in Kakata Margibi County.
Speaking at the start of the worship, the Head of (LINLEA) Mr. Cecil B. Griffiths said, the Two days orientation workshop was aimed at reviewing process and determine any complaint made against Police or Immigration officers or any civilian personnel of the two entities.
He said the training was to also establish an Alternative Dispute Resolution process as an option for the public to use to resolve minor complaints against the LNP or LIS.
LINLEA boss added that the Civilian Complaints Review Board provides oversight of the LNP and the LIS.
Mr. Griffiths further encourage anyone who has experienced or observed misconduct by Police or Immigration Officers to file a complaint with the CCRB or the professional Standards Department of the Liberia National Police.
“You can file an appeal to the CCRB which will then conduct a review of the investigation process. If you are not satisfied with the CCRB findings and recommendations, you can appeal to the Minister of Justice Mr. Griffiths explained”
For her part, Margibi County Attorney Cllr. Deddeh Wilson, stressed that most of the cases reported in Margibi are violence cases where citizens assault Police officers when discharging their duty.
Cllr. Wilson called on civilians not to take the laws into their own hands but rather report all forms of violence to the Police for proper investigation.
