LFA Orange 1st Division Match day 17 Preview League:
Sanniquellie-based First Division side Nimba Kwado will host title rivals LPRC Oilers, the defending champions of the Liberian top-flight at the Nimba County Sports Stadium in Sanniquellie on today Sunday, April 11, 2021 as the battle for the championship glory heats up between both sides.
The reigning champions Oilers, are currently sitting on top of the table with 34 points, one point ahead of their main challengers Nimba Kwado who are second with 33 points after playing 16 matches this season respectively.
Kwado have secured 9 wins, 6 draws and a lost from their previous 16 league games.
Meanwhile, visitors LPRC have recorded 10 wins, 4 draws alongside 2 losses from their last 16 games this season.
The Nimba County side defeated the Oil Boys 1-0 at the ATS last December during the first phase of the season.
Kwado were held to a goalless draw in a Nimba derby against Nimba FC last Sunday, whilst the Oilers whipped Mighty Barrolle 3-1 in Kakata to reclaim the table from Kwado.
With both teams only being set apart by a point difference on the table, the Sunday’s contest is expected to be a blockbuster as both Nimba Kwado and visitors LPRC Oilers are desperate for the league title.
A win for Kwado will send them back atop the table with 2 points over their contenders, LPRC. On the other hand, a win for the Oilers is definitely going to extend their lead on the log by 4 points difference.
A draw match will keep the two sides separated by the same one point gap with the Oil Boys remaining in the forefront.
The fierce championship deciding clash will kick-off at 3: 30 PM today in Sanniquellie.
In another delightful Match-day 17 action, 8th-placed Monrovia Club Breweries will take on Small Town FC who are seated at the very bottom of the table at 12th-spot.
The match is set to start at 3:00 PM at TUSA Field in Gardnersville.
Club Breweries and their Logan Town opponents played to a 2-2 equalizer at the George Weah Technical Center in Careysburg last year.
After playing to 2-2 draw in the first round of the season, 10th-placed Nimba United who are struggling for survival from the demotion zone will host LISCR who are positioned 3rd.
The match will be played at the North Star Stadium in Mount Barclay, the official home soil of United.
Another contentious match to watch out for today is the Watanga FC versus NPA Anchors matchup which will get underway at 3: 30 PM at Blue Field in PHP, Central Monrovia.
Both sides settled to 3-3 draw last December. As it stands, Watanga are 5th on the table whilst NPA sit ninth right at the door of the relegation area, with 19 points from 16 league games.
Another eye-catching showpiece will be the Nimba FC face-off against Bea Mountain at the Gompa Sports Stadium in Ganta, at 3:30 PM this afternoon.
After forfeiting all 3 points to Bea Mountain during the first phase, Nimba FC best option for today’s encounter is a win if they must survive relegation this season.
The Mountain Lions are currently stationed at the bottom of the table, two steps from down. The Gold Boys, Bea Mountain are 4th-placed on the table.
The crucial fight involving Mighty Barrolle and Freeport FC at the TUSA Field at 5:30 PM this evening will bring down curtains on the Match-day 17 actions.
The Kayan Pepper Boys of Mighty Barrolle lost 2-0 to the Porters in their first meeting at ATS.
The Rollers are sitting midway on the 12 teams table after accumulating 23 points from 16 games so far this season.
Their opponents Freeport have 20 points and are 7th on the table.
