26 Persons Confirmed Dead In Fire Accident, As President Weah Consoles Bereaved Family Members


Residents of the commercial district of Red Light woke up early Wednesday Morning September 18, 2019 in pain, tears and sorrows with the tragic dead news of twenty-six people due to fire incident at an Islamic School.

The saddened incident according to one of the imams took place late Tuesday night when the victims were asleep.

Though the cause of the fire incident is yet to be established but some eye witnesses attributed it to electrical shock.

According to the Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency Henry Williams those confirmed dead are twenty-six (26) and are all males including twenty-four (24) students between the ages of ten to twenty and two teachers respectively.

The Islamic School according to reports has a population of about thirty seventy students many of whom are living within the facility that was gutted by fire.

The shocking situation immediately captured the attention of President George Weah who early Wednesday Morning went on the scene along with other Government officials.

The Liberian Leader in a brief interview with reporters extended his sympathy to the bereaved family and promised his government support to work in establishing the exact cause of the fire to ensure a recurrence is prevented.

“We are shock and it is to our disbelieve to see some of our citizens dying in such a painful way, but all we can say to the bereave family is they should take heart”,

President Weah added.

Due to the extent of the damage caused on the facility as a result of the fire incident, according to the Executive Director of National Disaster Management Agency Henry Williams, Government is planning to reconstruct the School.

Details of that plan are said to be in the making as the current attention is now directed to the burring of the dead.

However, two kids believed to be in their early ten and twelve years respectively all males miraculously survived the fire incident.

Meanwhile, the bodies according to Mr. Williams were later on taken to the 17th Street Mosque in Sinkor for prayers and subsequently at the Old Road Cemetery for burial.

As investigation continues relative to the exact cause of the fire incident, family members and relatives are now nursing their pains as a result of the shocking deaths of their children and love ones.
