Bong County’s most celebrated side Bong Rangers broke all odds against them to beat overrated CeCe United 1-0 in the grand final of the National 3rd Division championship at David Kuyon stadium in Gbarnga on Sunday, 27 June.

An 85th minute well rehearsed strike from 17-year-old wonder boy Lassana Kamara was enough to land the Bongese the prestigious championship crown.

The matchup between Montserrado Third Division champions CeCe United and the Kpatawee giants Bong Rangers was a very tough one with the first half finishing on a deadlock as they shared the spoil.

The two sides returned from recess with a lot of desperation in them but they were actually careful of not conceding a goal in such a blockbusting showpiece.

There were heavy silence amongst spectators at the David Kuyon stadium as the match kept heating up with a pretty tough exchanges between the two sides.

CeCe United had most of the terrible attempts on goal in the first quarter of the second half but a well concentrated Vamuyan Swaray between the woods for the Rangers had some good saves from United’s duo Moses Meah and Francis Doe.

With the pressure becoming heavier on the home side, the coaching staff revived their attack by bringing on youngster Kamara from the bench in the 75th minute.

The 17-year-old winger brought a total change in the play for the Rangers as he became a serious threat for the CeCe defenders.

His bravery, speed and skills on the ball were just exactly what Rangers needed in the game at such a crucial point.

Kamara found the curtain raiser for the Bongese with five minutes left on the clock to play as a shoot from Washington Zayzay slipped over the shin of Theodore Gould and landed right on the right foot of the youngster who then brilliantly placed it over the left shoulder of Dorbor Dominic who opted for a save.

After the goal, CeCe showed some resilience as they put up a tough chase with Moses Meah, Francis Doe, and Edwin Johnson all in the attack.

An equaliser was nearly found when Meah curved from the right corner with a shoot, but easily handled by Swaray.

The Bongese not willing to let go of their lead now had to keep more men in their backyard to withstand the tension from the Saye Town boys in the 8 minutes stoppage time indicated by Referee Benedictus Tolowon.

Rangers fought well until the final whistle confirmed their tremendous victory over CeCe to be crowned champions of the National 3rd Division championship 2020-21.

The Kpatawee boys took home a prize money of LD 250,000 alongside the trophy and the gold medals.

CeCe United pocketed LD 120,000 for finishing second.

Both teams will also play in Orange National Second Division league beginning the 2021-22 season.

Bong Rangers will be the lone representative for Bong County in the Orange National Second League for the upcoming season and the first side after nearly a decade now.
