The National Elections says, it has received 99 .9 percent of the US$1.7m funds needed for four by-elections in Nimba, Bong and Grand Gedeh Counties due to vacancy.
NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown Lansanah said, the by-elections will be conducted in electoral districts #1 in Nimba, Bomi, and Grand Gedeh as well as district #2 in Bong County.
These by-elections were created as the result of the elections of the respective Representatives as Senators in the December 2020 Senatorial Elections.
Madam Davidetta Brown Lansanah also disclosed that her institution is currently engaging with the National Legislature to set a new date for the conduct of the by-election’s elections, being that the previous constitutional dates set have all passed.
Speaking on a local radio station Thursday, she said, “Many citizens in the counties where the by-elections are scheduled have been calling on the National Elections Commission and the Legislature to speedily conduct elections to fill the representation voids created for those districts in the lower house at the legislature.”
