All senators in Thursday June 23, 2022 session have confirmed presidential nominee Madam Ruth Cooker Colins.
Madam Collins who is the current acting minister at the Ministry of Public Works is now legitimately certained as the head of the entity.
It comes weeks after the Senate Committee on Public Works and Rural Development chair by Bomi County Senator Edwin Snowe reviewed her credentials and suitability for said position.
Although the report from the committee was not published as it suppose to be, all senators voted “yes” to allow Madam Collins stear the affairs and operations of the Ministry of Public Works.
Out of 29 senators, 15 senators who were in session agreed with the committee on Public Works for madam Collins to lead the ministry.
It can be recalled on Tuesday, June 21, 2023, the Senate Committee on Public Works and Rural Development recommended that the nominee for the post of Minister of Public Works be confirmed, but Plenary placed hold on her confirmation on grounds that the Committee failed to present performance report as part of the criteria endorsed by the Senate regarding nominees who have served and being re-nominated.
The Plenary voted unanimously to confirm the Minister after several Senators acknowledged receipt of a performance report from the Committee on Public Works and Rural Development chaired by Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe.
In a related development, the Liberian Senate has, for the second time placed a “hold” on the confirmation of the Deputy Auditor General for Audit Services-Designate of the General Auditing Commission (GAC), Mr. Winsley S. Nanka based on the failure of the Joint Committee on Autonomous Commission & Agencies and Public Accounts & Audits to submit performance report on the nominee.
Notwithstanding, the Committee has promised to provide performance report to Plenary for the nominee by Monday, June 27, 2022.
