A Great Threat To Liberia’s Democracy, CPP terms The Closure of Roots Fm By Government

Collaborating Political Parties have termed as a grave threat to Liberia’s democracy the closure of Roots Fm By the Government.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday October 11, 2019 in Congo Town at the headquarters of the Liberty Party, the spokesperson of the CPP Wilmot Paye condemned the action by the government in the strongest  termed  noting that it is a major violation of the people’s fundamental constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression.

Mr. Paye warned national government to desist from the abuse of power and devote energy towards the fixing of the Country’s broken economy.

The CPP used the occasion to called on the international community to intervene in what they observed to be a worsening situation in Liberia.

“ We called on the resilient Liberian people to rise up and resist the current threat to democracy in Liberia”, the opposition politician noted.

Moreover, the political institutions urged civil society organizations in Liberia to generate the courage to confront what they termed as the allege growing tyranny being unleashed upon the Liberian people.

In a harsher  tune Mr. Paye at the same time demanded national government to immediately reopen Roots fm, threatening to mobilize Liberians to stand up and stop the claimed creeping dictatorship in its tracks before it is too late.

The CPP’s position came twenty-four hours after the government shut down Roots Fm owned by political commentator and talk show host ( Henry Costa) for amongst other things, violation of the 2015 Telecommunications act of Liberia including what it branded as criminal enterprise, blackmailing and many others.

CPP is so far the second opposition political institution after Unity Party that has condemned the closure of Roots fm and demanded the reopening of the station by government.
