AAIWUL In Partnership With SDI Opens Two Days Capacity Building Friday


In an effort to help build the capacity of workers of the Golden Veroleum, the Agriculture Agro Processing and Industrial Workers Union of Liberia will Friday November 22, 2019 organized a two-day intensive capacity building workshop with GVL/AAIWUL Local-2.

The training which is expected to bring together about twenty negotiating team members for the Collectively Bargaining Agreement 2019-2021 respectively among the AAIWUL and GVL management will take place in Buchanan City Grand Bassa County under the theme: Building Union Power for Adequate Representation.

Speaking to reporters Thursday ahead of the training both the President General and the Secretary General of AAIWUL Abraham Nimene and Edwin Cisco stressed the importance of training for its members.

“We want our members to be adequately trained so that they can have the necessary negotiation and others skills in addressing matters that are of paramount concern to them, they noted.

The training according to the two trade unionists is the first of its kind with the Sustainable Development Institute and hopes to among other things partner with both community dwellers, workers as well as family members in ensuring that they gain access and other benefits from their farm lands that were given to concessions and multinational companies.

It can be recalled that AAIWUL over the period organized capacity building trainings for some of its members and provided them with skills that have and are currently using at their various places of work.

Meanwhile plans are in the making for the AAIWUL two bosses to travel to the United States of America soon to participate in an extensive research session with focus in the oil palm sector of the Country.

It is also expected according to Mr. Cisco and Mr. Nimene that issues relative to child labor as well as precarious working conditions in the sector will be highlighted at the ceremony as they upon the training will return to Liberia to conduct training of trainers workshop to help enhance the skills of their respective members.

AAIWUL has over the period been in the vanguard of advocating for the welfare of its members with major focus on decent work for decent labour.
