AFCON 2019: End of Road for Liberia

Liberia’s national football team will have no role to play in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after they suffered a 1-0 defeat against DR Congo on Sunday, March 24, at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa, Congo.

The defeat ended the Lone Star campaign of booking their ticket to Egypt.

With a favorable result coming from the other end between Zimbabwe and Congo Brazzaville, the Lone Star needed just a draw to secure their spot in the finals, but China-based Cedric Bakambu’s lone goal in the 52nd minute became a stumbling block for the red, white and blue boys.

The win for DR Congo was enough for them to finish as runners-up in Group G, three point behind leaders Zimbabwe that comfortably edged out Congo Brazzaville in Harare.
