Monrovia-LISCR FC head coach Tapha Manneh says his team was unlucky in the Confederation of African Football champion’s league against Sudanese champions Al-Hilal in the preliminary round of the competition.
Al- Hilal scored three goals Tuesday February 20, 2018 against the Liberian Champions LISCR FC to book their place in second round of the CAF Champions League with a 3-1 aggregate success over a two leg encounter in the preliminary round of the Champions League.Al- Hilal got off to the perfect start when Mohammed Ahmed Basshir nodded them ahead and were 2-0 up at the break thanks to his Second goal in the 42nd minute of the match from close range after poor defending and miscalculation from the defenders of the “Shipping Boys”.Sharaf Eldin Shaiboub hit the home side third goal in the 64 minute from close range after poor defending again from LISCR defenders, It left the Sudanese’s champions comfortable reaching the second round following a 1-0 defeat away from home. The game was dominated by the home side as LISCR players played below standard and were at some point during the match seen chasing their own shadows. The lack of confidence and coordination in the “Shipping Boys” defense and Midfield led to her conceding two first half goals as the first half ended two zero. Back from the break LISCR attack looks threatening but that lasted for few minutes due to lack of energy and experience something the home side capitalized on and got their third and final goal of the game through Sharaf Eldin Shaiboub as the Sudanese fans were in the stands celebrating another qualification. 47 minute into the game LISCR’S Sekou Sheriff free kick was saved by Loik Maxim who made several good saves during the match.Tapha Manneh who made four changes to his lineup substituted Saah Nyumah for Mustapha Niijeb to get an away goal but it did not materialize for the LISCR boss. Tommy Songo who put up a good performance made two one on one saves in the second half but his saves could not stop his team from not qualifying over their host. With a little pressure on his team the home said coach Brazilian Sergio Farias introduced Altahr for Aziz Shibulab in the 59th minute.Manneh brought down his Gambian winger Bully Drammeh for Amadiah Kawah in the 64th minute. Mustapha Niije header hit the cross bar late on during the game as the game ended 3-0 to the home side. The defeat means the shipping boys despite promise from coach Tapha Manneh to qualify the Liberian Champions to the next stage of the competition proved fruitless unlike what BYC did last year in Bamako Mali against Stade Malian.Tuesday defeat in the champion’s league means LISCR has not reached the second round of all CAF competitions after three appearances in the champions League. Speaking to KMTV Christopher Walker upon the team’s arrival in Liberia on Wednesday February 21, 2018 Manneh said his team was unfortunate against Al- Hilal but was quick to note that his players did not play up to expectation.

It was not up to expectations even though the team is big and playing home,” Manneh added.

According to the LISCR Coach his defense play well but they could have done better.

“Playing in this type of competition you learn a lot especially when your team losing, Yes LISCR has lot of prospects as our players are determined to upsets any team.

He asserted that his players did not disappoint him but played their best due to the level they played and the experience of the Sudanese Club.

In his words his midfielders and Strikers did not work well in the last game.

When asked about his target of reaching the group stage he considered it as a failure and is now going back to his drawing board to prepare for next season.

“LISCR FC, we are going back to defend our title and is now our target,” Tapha Manneh said.
LISCR’s defeat according to critics can be attributed to the delay in the kickoff of the local league and her failure to score more goals at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on February 11th puts them at the disadvantage position.Christopher Walker reports.
