The Ministry of Agriculture on Tuesday launched “a major rice harvest’ on a farm lying near the hilly former iron ore mining town, in Bong County.
According to a release from the Ministry of Agriculture, the visit to the farm is indicative of the Government’s support for Liberian smallholder farmers during the rice harvesting season.
“We have immediately instructed our relevant department at the MOA to start loaning rice threshers to farmers to avoid post-harvest losses to rodents and unfriendly weather. The Government of Liberia through the MOA is taking this initiative to directly support our farmers,” the release quotes Agriculture Minister Jeanine Cooper.
Minister Cooper has meanwhile instructed relevant departments at the ministry to start loaning rice threshers to farmers to avoid post-harvest losses to rodents and unfriendly weather.
The lack of threshing machines during the harvesting season usually leads to farmers experiencing post-harvest losses.
