Ambassador Designate to USA Confirms Selling Liberia-England Embassy Building in 1999

Liberia’s Ambassador appointed to the United States of America, Jeff D. Dowana has confirmed the selling of the building facility that hosted the Liberian diplomats in England in 1999.

Ambassador Dowana was the Ambassador Plenipotentiary to the Court of St. John which oversees England.

It was reported that Amb. Dowana in 1999 sold the Liberian Embassy.

Responding to inquiries from River Gee Senator Jonathan Sogbie, Amb. Dowana confirmed the sale of the Embassy facility but said it was done in consultation with the Liberian Government.

According to the Ambassador Designate, the building was in a worsened condition at the time and residents around the area were complaining about the poor state of the structure.

He said due to this, they had to sell the building and buy another one that is being used by the Liberian Government currently.

Amb. Jeff Dowana has however distanced himself from the sale of the Liberian Embassy in Paris, France noting that he knows nothing about that.

He disclosed this during his confirmation hearing before the Liberian Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

The hearing of the Liberian Ambassador-Designate to the USA determines whether to be confirmed by the Senate.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Chaired by James P. Biney is however critical of the hearing to get more information that will inform the body on its subsequent decision.

Committee on Foreign Affairs believes said position is cardinal to Liberia’s healthy relationship with the United States of America, adding the need for more criticality.
