The Infrastructure sector of Liberia is said to be making a steady progress though there are some challenges.
Well the latest is a plan construction of a modern Aircraft Maintenance Center in Liberia.
According to Deputy Press Secretary Smith Toby upon the completion of the project, the maintenance center will be the first of its kind on the continent of Africa and Liberia in particular.
The initiative which is part of efforts by the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States will among other things help in the servicing of aircraft including the spare parts, something he noted has been a huge challenge for the continent and Liberia in particular.
Speaking to Executive Mansion reporter Tuesday November 5, 2019 Mr. Toby disclosed that a team from Hartfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport will arrive in the Country next Month to do a feasibility study on the ground and return to the USA before subsequently returning to Liberia for the commencement of the project.
According to him the move is a big boost for the aviation sector.
He further disclosed that Liberia’s voting right on the International Aviation Organization has now been restored, this he noted is also a welcoming news for the nation and its people and will further boost confidence in the sector among the people of Liberia.
The decision followed Liberia’s suspension from the group seven years ago.
Smith at the same time unveiled plans for the commencement of Delta flights to Liberia soon.
He said plans by the company are in the making to come to Liberia to conduct its feasibility study before the initial operations but was quick to add that Delta will begin with cargo transportation first.
The Deputy Press Secretary also noted that Turkish Airlines is in negotiation with the Government to ensure it begins operations in the Country soon including Air France respectively.
He further stated that there are domestic and other flights expressing interest to come to do business in the Country something that will reap an economic dividend for Liberia, Smith Stressed.
Meanwhile plans he indicated are also in the making for the renovation of the James Springs Pyne Airport in preparation of more domestic flights operations in Liberia soon.
In a related development, Smith informed Executive Mansion reporters that President George Weah will this week announced the new name of the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL)
The pending appointment is a manifestation of President Weah’s commitment to the people of Liberia after the end of a rigorous vetting process by the vetting team.
He said the team has completed its work and final disclosure by the Liberian leader will be made before the end of this week.
