Land as a perishable commodity is very important to mankind so pivotal that its legitimacy is crucial before acquiring it to ensure the proper and right things are done, void of dispute.
Well the people of Unification Town situation is now of no exception as the over twenty thousand residents in lower Margibi County are said to be breathing a sound of relieve now as their old age desire of property ownership is gradually coming to reality for them.
Well this is so because of the able representation for them by representative Ivar K. Jones of Margibi County.
Smartly dressed in a dominant blue,design white and blue shirt with a red board to march and complete his national colors of red, white and blue coat suit at a well-attended gathering, the Margibi Lawmaker historicized that out of the over 20,000 residents of the historic Unification Town only three people and or family after over sixty years have a legitimate Land deed for the area namely the Johnson’s and the Catholic Church among others something after his disclosure astonished the crowd.
Representative Jones presenting the people’s case in a more convincing manner and form to the Liberian leader George Weah as the audience attentively listen, the Margibi District two Representative appeal to Dr. Weah to see the need to elevate the residents old age squatters right status to title deeds including permanent land owners owing their long stay in the area, a statement that was greeted with gigantic hands of applause from the audience especially soon to be direct land beneficiaries/land owner.
In an interview with some of the expected beneficiaries, they praised their Lawmaker for what they considered a timely request from him to the chief executive.
“We are hopeful that the request will this time around unlike in the past be honored”, the happy citizens of Unification Town, told reporters.
When ask whether the situation requires legislation, Representative Jones said no and had it been the case it would have been done long time because most of his colleagues in the House of Representatives are in support of his brilliant advocacy in the best interest of his people.
He commended President Weah for responding to the request of his people.
Though no final decision was automatically reached at the program but he pointed out that by the president making his request as part of his opening statement at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the RIA to ELWA highway project speaks to the fact that there is a light at the end of the thunder, Lawmaker Jones intoned.
The Liberian leader in brief response to the people’s request through their lawmaker referred Representative Ivar Jones to the Liberia Land Authority as the appropriate government agency to handle said matter as he will be awaiting final outcome to ensure he play his part and lay to rest the old age squatters rights issue in Unification Town.
As the negotiations continue, the Margibi Lawmaker is now of the conviction that with the progress made thus far for his people, a mission complete is just one step away.
In a joyous and relieve mood as his people looked on carefully, the young Lawmaker presented their petition to President Weah with high expectation that this time around his people unlike in the past will at long last laugh the loudest.
