China’s Immense Contribution to Liberia, An Impact Well Acknowledged by Liberians, A Look at 2019

The year 2019 is winding down but it cannot go unnoticed by Liberians especially with the significant contributions of friendly Nations to Liberia mainly the people’s Republic of China.

China unlike other bilateral partners in 2019 and before has made its impact felt in Liberia of which the people are currently enjoying to the core.

Four major people centered projects in 2019 under the auspices of China’s assistance were dedicated to the Country and its people and are being used massively and wisely by the direct beneficiaries, the people of Liberia including other national.

The Robert’s International Airport unlike in the past now has a modern face as a result of China’s contributions to Liberia’s infrastructure development and is now fully operational.

The Airport constructed by the Chinese was in July of 2019 turned over to the Liberian government for effective operations and is now being used by hundreds of people daily.

A new face for the Country, the modern Robert International Airport situated in lower Margibi County Republic of Liberia, first of its kind since the independence of Liberia is a land mark gift by the people of China to Liberia that will always be remembered by the over 4 million people of Liberia.

The Airport like other international airports has some modern airport features to include: excavator, ten passenger booths, Careers, lifts and many more.

The new terminal including the run way which is now the largest in West Africa are two major projects the people of Liberia and other national are now enjoying as Liberians unlike in the past can now boast that they have a physical and tangible international Airport as a result of the blessing from its bilateral friend- China.

Well in a drive to reduce huge financial burden from the government thorough rent payments of public officers to private owners, the Chinese Government in its as usual and timely intervention constructed and in 2019 dedicated the new and modern Ministerial complex situated in Congo Town, district ten Montserrado County.

The complex is now a savior to the Government and its people and is now being used by hundreds of Liberians and other foreign guests not only for office purposes rather for official programs and other meaningful activities.

The fully air conditioned theater and conference halls with comfortable seating capacity on a daily basic attracts more people for usage.

The Ministerial complex in July 2019 was also turned over to national government and hosts about five Government Ministries and Agencies including: The Ministries of Justice, Transport, Education, Commerce, Agriculture and Civil Service Agency respectively.

At the dedicatory ceremony President George Weah again lauded the Chinese Government for its continued meaningful assistance to Liberia something he noted the people of Liberia remain grateful.

Additionally, Chinese Ambassador near Monrovia Fu Jijun recommitted China’s support and assistance to Liberia.

Then came the job employment initiative by the Chinese people when again the Government after several investment meetings, completed and dedicated the first wood processing plant in Liberia (Shanyou-Wood Processing Plant)

The Wood Processing plant situated in upper Montserrado County District one is now operational and has created jobs for local residents in the area.

The Chinese company with labor support from Liberians is transforming raw woods into finished products and has so far historically shipped out its first batch.

In late December of 2019 and in a move to give more visibility to the State Own University of Liberia after constructing its modern Fendell complex/ campus few years ago, the Chinese again build an electronic bill- board to show case the activities of the University among others and was first used during the historic centennial (100th) Graduation ceremony of the University of Liberia in early December.

The people’s Republic of China according to a student of the University of Liberia James Tamba is not only contributing to Liberia’s infrastructure development rather other sectors of the Country, this he noted is commendable.

Currently about two hundred Liberians are studying in China under the Chinese Bilateral Scholarship program in order to help build and further strength the  capacity of young Liberians to ensure they reach their full potential , youth development and technical vocational education and self empowerment, Agriculture, culture exchange, tourism and many others, are key ventures the bilateral ties Liberia is hugely benefiting from  its counterpart, China.

As the people of China continue its assistance to Liberia, there are several other development packages ahead for Liberia especially with the 2018 signing of the Belt and Road initiative between the two Countries aimed at promoting trade and commerce, culture exchanges, tourism and among others, the smiles on the faces of Liberians have just begun as more is expected.
