“Complete Mess” opposition leaders brand Justice Ja’neh’s impeachment trial; call for a complete halt to the process


Former Standard Bearer of Liberty Party Counsellor Charles Walker Brumskine has termed as “Complete Mess” associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh’s impeachment trial at the Senate.

Justice Ja’neh is being tried for multiple alleged offences including theft of property and abuse of power amongst others.

The charges were brought against him by Representatives Acarous Gray and Thomas Fallah of Montserrado districts #8 and #5 respectively.

Speaking to Legislative reporters on Capitol Hill, the Liberty Party Steward said his heart bleeds over what he considers an illegal process presided over by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Francis Korkpor.

According to Counsellor Brumskine, the entire impeachment process is in flagrant violation of article 43 of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.

The three times defeated Presidential candidate told reporters on Wednesday, his stance is geared towards protecting the rule of law contrary to speculation that he is defending the alleged actions of Justice Ja’neh.

For his part, Alternative National Congress flag bearer Alexander Benedict Cummings called on the Senate and the Chief Justice to put an immediate and complete halt to the trial for what he considers illegal proceeding.

He meanwhile said the proceeding is a joke.

At the same time All Liberian Party standard bearer Benoni Urey challenged the Senators to vote against what he termed as a complete “Foolishness “. Mr Urey argued that the trial is rather politically motivated than legal.

The opposition political parties Leaders made the remarks in an interview with reporters on Capitol Hill after witnessing Wednesday’s impeachment hearing that saw Representative Acarous Gray taking the witness stand.
