David-Ta Residents Wants Bridge Constructed to Curtail Drowning


To curtail drowning, Residents of David-ta in Bong County Electoral District #3 are calling on Bong County Authority and National Government to construct a bridge over the jor river.

The river is between Gbarnga and several towns and villages in the area.

The David-ta residents in an interview with our Bong County Correspondent on Saturday July 24, 2021 said, at least ten people have lost their lives as a result of drowning.

According to them, they fear more deaths if nothing is done to remedy the situation.

“More people have died here, just last year, five persons got drown in this water. Crossing the water using this canoe is very terrible so we want our Leaders to come and help us” Nana George, the Youth President of the area told KMTV.

According to him, there are more than six major towns with several villages in the region, and the same route connects Grand Bassa.

He said on so many occasions they have called on leaders for support but to no avail.

“We been crying on the Leaders for long, we have spoken with several of them but yet not way”
He adds.

Our Reporter who visited the crossing point Saturday morning said people are currently using hand made wooden canoe to cross.

Our Reporter observed that People leave from Gbarnga on the daily basis to buy locally produced commodities.
