The Chairman of the Independent Council of Patriots, Amb. Rufus Neufville has heavily criticized lawmakers for receiving 6500usd each in the name of operational funds.
According to him the action on the part of the direct beneficiaries of the people(Lawmakers) is a complete act of corruption that needs to be condemned by all Liberians.
He said it unfortunate for Lawmakers to collect illegal money to do the job of their people for which they were elected.
“It is sad for the Country, I am depressed by this, I thought Lawmakers are there to advocate for their people’s welfare and protection among others but not to enriched and profiteer at the detriment of the masses, it is totally unacceptable” he blasted.
In an interview exclusively with our reporter on Monday April 27, 2020 the former Lawmaker in an angrier mood recommends all health workers and facilities not to treat any lawmaker across the Country including their wives once they fall sick until they can return the money to appropriate people.
He noted that the only exception will be their children who are in his words could be innocent to the matter.
Amb. Neufville said such money should have gone to the health workers who are directly battling the COVID-19 crisis and not politicians.
Additionally, he stressed that said amount could have done enough in the provision of needed health equipment and materials in the ongoing crisis.
Mr. Neufville said he is completely disappointed to see policy makers distributing money among themselves when they should be thinking of how to equip health care facilities especially at this crucial crisis and help in saving lives respectively.
Training for nurses and doctors should be cardinal and it is key to help them at this time of the crisis, branding them as warriors, heroes and heroines as such the needed motivation in all spears should be provided to them and not politicians.
“Politicians, civil society people among others cannot fight the virus rather only health workers, as such they need to be respected and given the necessary support, he maintained.
“Let’ give money to the specialists, the experts and not politicians”, Amb. Neufville, further indicted.
Since the money distribution saga in and around the Country among Lawmakers, there have been mixed views in the public but with huge number of people criticizing why the lawmakers should receive money in such a crisis time when health workers and civil servants are complaining of salary payments while the masses are going to bed without food.
Meanwhile the lawmakers are on records for saying that the money they received was for operational purposes while others said they did not sign for such money.
