Drug abuse and other unwholesome substances is said to be on the increase especially among the young people mainly students in Liberia, a recent investigation revealed.
The situation which is alarming is gradually eating up the fabric of the society and needs to be addressed urgently.
According to an activist of drug abuse and harmful substances James Koryor during a petition statement to President George Weah recently described the current trend of drugs abuse common among the future leaders as national emergency and should be arrested by the relevant Government authorities before it blows out of proportion.
In a recent investigation conducted by this media entity uncovered that some students and young people are selling food on various campuses that are drugged thus harming as well as initiating other young people into the ugly hobbits at the detriment of the society.
According to the investigation on one occasion an innocent student named withheld but from the Salvation Army Lenn Miller High School on Tuesday November 12, 2019 purchased a milk that was drugged and after liking it, she felt very weak and was rushed at the John F. Kennedy Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Though she was later in the evening discharged from the JFK with minor health effect, however the practice among the students at the Lenn Miller High School on 24th Street in Sinkor and other schools in Monrovia and its surrounding is said to be ongoing covertly.
Additionally, and at the same School another student in the 11th grade class according to our investigation is currently selling corn-meal with drug inside as well and is being purchased by some students who are part of said practice covertly at the detriment of the administration, other innocent students including parents and the society in general.
On another scene At the Christ the King Catholic School on the Old Road, the investigation also disclosed that some students usually leave classes during school hours and after school and are seen on local beaches and other hideouts taking in drugs without the knowledge of their parents and the School’s administration, a situation that is said to be troubling, noted an Instructed who begged to be named.
Currently the report established on every Friday which is branded as super Friday, students normally converged up Broad Street at Ducor Palace hotel and other local beaches taking in drugs and carrying out other unwholesome practices something that should claim the attention of duty bearers.
It can be recall that the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency stressed the need for more support and manpower to help combat the proliferation of drugs mainly at major hideout in Monrovia and its surroundings including porous border entry points, something that is yet to be effectuated up till press time.
The current situation which is now an open secrete and is destroying promising future leaders should be looked at carefully and in a timely manner if not the Country will turned into something dangerous, said a Human Rights activist.
