The Executive Protection Service (EPS) said on Friday it has launched an investigation into the death of one of its agents, Melvin Earley.

Preliminary reports, according to the EPS indicate that the long-serving EPS agent shot himself at about 06:03 am on Friday, February 19, 2021, in Tappita, Nimba County. He was on duty during the time of the incident.

Sources told KMTV that Agent Earley informed some of his colleagues that he was feeling abnormal after he had received a call from home that his wife was ‘misbehaving at home.”

The source also stated that the late EPS officer asked a nurse from JFD Hospital for a medication that which she refused and later resulted in a misunderstanding between them on Thursday, February 18.

Earley is said to have shot himself three times.

“The EPS has launched a full-scale investigation to establish any potential reason for the suicide,” the EPS said in a statement.

Agent Earley has been with EPS since the restructuring of the service after the Liberian Civil crisis.
