The Director of the Liberia National Fire Service Col.Alex K. Dickson, has concluded a two-day assessments visit in the port city of Buchanan as part of efforts to reopen the county fire station with a fire truck assign.
The fire station in the port city of Buchanan has been inactive since 2013 due to the lack of fire truck.
During the assessment tour ,Col.Dickson met and had a fruitful discussion with Grand Bassa County Suprintendent Hon.Janjay Baikpeh which was all gear towards the reopening of the fire station in the county.
Speaking to a team of reporters in the county, Col.Alex Dickson said base on the mandate of President George Manneh Weah President to decentralize the fire department and also many requests from former Foreign Minister Gbehzohngar M.Findley a man who he described
as a major role player in getting the India donated fire trucks from the Freeport of Monrovia to the Ministry of Justice to be used by the Liberia National Fire Service
The Liberia fire chief further described Grand Bassa County as the second most fire outbreak county next to Montserrado County.
He said there is an urgent need for the reopening of the county fire station and the deployment of firemen and truck for quick intervention.
Director Dickson also disclosed that one hundred fire volunteers have been trained and are now on the standby for county assignment.
Meanwhile, Col.Dickson has cautioned the public against the improper use of candles, mosquito coils and generators inside their homes .
The chief of Fire Service requests people to take preventive measures to properly protect their homes from getting destroyed as a result of fire.
He clarified that at no time the fire service goes to a fire scene to look at the fire before preparing to fight it.
He said in term of fire disaster, particularly electricity, the bureau communicate to the Liberia Electricity Coperation to off the breakers of the particular zone so as to reduce the grade of the fire to enable the fire fighters successful battle the fire .
In the mix of the fight against Covid 19 virus,the bureau has intervened thereby raising massing awareness in Monrovia and it environs.
