The Internal Audit Agency has disclosed plans to established a Nation-Wide Payroll clean-up task in the Country.
According to the head of the “IAA” Emmanuel Barten Nyeswa his Agency will play a lead road in robustly auditing all line Ministries and Agencies of Government.
He told reporters that the process will involve Health, Education, Internal Affairs, and the Security sectors among others.
Speaking at a News Conference Monday February 10, 2020, Mr. Nyeswa said they are professionally committed to work in the supreme interest of the Government and people of Liberia.
The “IAA” boss stressed that referenced audit, some of which are still ongoing, have greatly helped the Government of Liberia in saving unspecified amount of United States Dollars from ghost paddling on government’s payroll for years, which he believes will be redeployed to other productive sectors of the Country.
Mr. Nyeswa used the occasion to encouraged all actors involved to corporate with the exercise to enable the institution continuously execute its mandate of providing assurances that financial and operational activities of Government are in compliance with the applicable laws, policies, standards and procedures.
As part of that effort, he pointed out that the Government is determined to complete the process before the start of the new budget process and it will comprise all Government institutions across the Country.
At the same time the “IAA” boss has disclosed that it has concluded resource mobilization with the Ministry of Finance and Development for the contracting of a public accounting firm to audit the books of the Internal Audit Agency of Liberia to include its payroll for the period under the Director General’s stewardship.
According to him the issue is in line with its 2013 section 8.2 requirement under the “IAA’s to hire an independent and professional firm to audit its payroll.
The goal of the exercise Mr. Nyeswa indicated is to among other things present a rigorous analysis of the IAA”s operations while at the same time vouch for its system of internal control in order to assuage any doubts of irregularities moving forward.
He further noted that the new exercise will demonstrate their quest to ensure the fulfillment of good governance practices in public sector by instituting systems and control as a way of guaranteeing fiscal probity in the expenditure of public resources.
