What appears to be another political Pandora Box has again opened between the office of the President and supporters of former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai relative to recent aid he (Boakai) received from Dr. Weah
In an interview on Tuesday March 3, 2020, The Executive Mansion sharply reacted to a plan return of medical gesture done by the Liberian leader to former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
Smith Toby responding to a question by a reporter and social media video and photos respectively termed as childish and elementary for the Statesmen to be used in such a manner by spoon hand full of people under the banner of bringing back 2,500.00usd to President Weah as his recent and willing gesture to the former VP for his medical bills.
“In context and if he wants to return everything including gesture done for him by President Weah then the former VP “Got a Lot to return” Smith in a strong tune added.
He said it is important for the former VP to fully informed his supporters and catalog all the personal gestures and or assistance render to him by Dr. Weah before he thinks of returning a dip in the bucket of 2,500.00usd as returns for medical payment to President Weah.
The Deputy Press Secretary said it is time to focus on the core issues of the Country but if some members of the opposition will not put the interest of Liberia first than petty political games all of the time, then they will equally have no option but to respond by providing the real story to the public.
Narrating further Smith ask can 2,500.00usd pay for two persons that he (Amb. Boakai) took with him to seek medical attention excluding Amb. Boakai ticket fares and other medical expenses? this is laughable.
“Let him also get prepare to bring back the two cars worth 80,000usd each that the president gives the former VP” Smith noted.
He wants the former VP to think out of the box and be more observant and careful because some of his people are not fair to him.
Addressing Executive Mansion Reporters on Tuesday Mr. Toby indicated that the recent social media video and photos of a plan return of 2,500.00usd to President Weah was meant for them to score political points but President Weah is not distracted by that but is concern more about the people’s issue rather than mere political tactics.
Smith was also quick to clarify that all the gestures and assistance rendered the former VP were personal contributions from the President and not his benefits as former VP.
“Why will someone personal help to others be politicized? We need to change”, Smith stressed.
Ahead of the official delivery of the 2,500.00usd to President George Weah, the political corridors of the Country are now charged with the discussion as mixed views, clarifications and counter reactions now the order of the Day.
In vox pop interview with some Liberians on Tuesday March 3, 2020 to our reporter on the issue, they termed the decision by the former Vice President through some of his supporters which himself accepted evidence of posting for the photo as provocative, premature and childish while others feel the president’s recent public disclosure of gesture to the statesman was unfair and unprofessional to the former VP.
