The Director of Press at the House of Representatives Isaac Redd is calling for improved governance mainly in the fiscal management system of the Country.
Speaking in an Interview Tuesday July 30, 2019 to our reporter Mr. Redd said more needs to be done to ensure the openness of the fiscal management programs of Liberia.
According to him it is now time for Public Corporation including the National Port Authority, The Liberia Telecommunications Authority, National Social Security and Welfare Corporation among others to be more accountable to the National legislature including the president in their expenditure as well as their respective budget processes.
He said it is not a good accountability and transparency related practice for public corporations to have an enclosed budget as well as without the consultation and participation of the national Legislature.
Though he added that the president does sign his respective budgets but the absence and full contribution of the legislature is unacceptable and should be looked at properly.
He at the same encouraged cabinet Ministers and heads of Agencies of Government to be more prepared and discipline in defending their respective entities budgets during this current budget hearing process.
” Come with all your necessary financial system to ensure you fully represent including defending their respective entity’s budget for the smooth hearing process”.
Isaac however, frowned at some government officials who go to hearing process with flying sheet and in some instances do not appear to be prepare and serious in discussing critical national issues.
He said public officials should at all times be accountable to their people whose tax payers money they are benefiting from, noting that value for money especially the public purse is key, he noted.
Mr. Redd said the current 2019/2020 national budget is 100% people center and will meet the needs and aspirations of the ordinary people.
The Houses’ spokesman noted that the current budget has the potential to jump start the Country’s economy and to as well put Liberia on its feet to growth and development.
Additionally, the House of Representatives Press Director called on Liberians to now adopt a mind set to help build Liberia.
Redd indicated further that it is only through patriotism and nationalism among the people, Liberia can move forward, noting that Liberians need to mean well for themselves including love for Country.
Currently the budget hearing process starts today, July 30, 2019 with the Liberia Revue Authority, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and many others taking the first stand while on Wednesday, the committee will host the Liberia Petroleum Refining Corporation, Liberia Maritime Authority, Liberia Telecommunications Authority and the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
