The 1986 Champions of the National County Sports Meet, Sinoe County appears to be edging closer and gradually to repeating history as the championship wave is said to be blowing along the City and sea shores of Greenville, soon, “We have come under the theme: Operation Clear All”, said Superintendent Lee Nagbe Chea.
According to sport pundits, Sinoe County Football team has so far proven to be the best playing Team in the 2019 2020 National County Sports Meet.
The Mississippi Boys qualified in Group A with four points over Host Grand Bassa County in the Port City of Buchanan on Saturday January 11, 2019 in front a record crowd who came with high hopes of a qualification but were coerced to leave the Doris Williams Sports Pitch with heads bow down in disappointment and dismay.
According to some fans,the performance of Bassa Football Team in this year’s County meet was the worse in recent years having played three games and scored just a goal but collected three points only to remain in the port city of Buchanan, the Land of Hospitality.
Some of them attributed their performance to poor preparations while others say it was due to the lack of support among others.
On the other hand, Sinoe County team scored three goals, won just a game, lost to Rivercess and drew to Grand Bassa County, but supporters and Citizens of the County are confident and certain that this year is the year for Sinoe to repeat her 1986 history at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City at the end of January 2020.
In a jubilant mood the Superintendent of Sinoe County Lee Nagbe Chea said “I have come for the trophy, traditionally, physically, spiritually and Morally and nothing will stand in front of our way”, he added.
Superintendent Chea brags that his boys unlike in the past are overly prepared to capture the trophy and bring the much needed proud back to the people of Sinoe.
Speaking to our reporter Mr. Chea commended his players for their outstanding display over their counterparts which saw them booked their ticket for the knock out stage of the biggest sporting show down in the Country.
Mr. Chea also commended his kinsman for supporting the team and encouraged them to do more especially when they arrive in Monrovia for the quarter final stage of the Competition.
Also speaking to our reporter was former Senator of Sinoe County Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan who pledged his unflinching support towards the team.
According to him when you talk about Football, you first must count Sinoe as such their qualification to Monrovia was not a surprise.
“Our target and mission is to capture the trophy and our boys are set to do just that, the former Sinoe Lawmaker noted.
Sinoe qualified after she drew with Grand Bassa County in a game that her saw her dominating from start to finish but failed to score a goal.
The attacking porous of Sinoe County in the entire ninety minutes kept the defense of Bassa on their heels especially whenever skipper Christian Garblah was seen in possession of the ball, the spectators of Bassa were always seen frightening not concede a goal.
In the 2018/2019 edition of the County meet Sinoe stopped to the same quarter final stage of the Competition but players and officials are of the hope that they will progress further this year especially with the young team they have comprising skillful, physical and talented players.
Meanwhile, the Sapo National Park Boys will face her South Eastern counterparts, Maryland County on Saturday January 18, 2020 at the SKD in the day’s last encounter and with operation clear all theme: citizens of Sinoe will be optimistic of over-powering her neighbors (Maryland) who finished first in her zone.
In a related development Montserrado, Bong, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Rivergee, Grand Bassa and Margibi Counties all failed to reach to the next stage of the Competition in the football category.
However, Kickball defending Champions, Grand Bassa County is heading to hopefully capture the trophy for the third time running but will have an uphill task as Bong, Lofa, Grand Kru, Rivergee, Margibi and Montserrado Counties among others, still have something to show to their respective citizens.
The month long annual event jointly organized by the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Internal Affairs usually bring together citizens from across the Country under one sporting umbrella cheering their respective Counties of origin to victory and is held under the theme: Sustaining the Peace through sports and is officially sponsor by Orange Liberia with the host of other traditional and local sponsors.
