Liberia defeated Libya 1-0 in an international friendly at the Chiedly Zouiten Stadium in Tunis on Monday, 14 June with Liberia’s Slavia Praha midfielder Murphy Oscar Dorley scoring the only goal of the contest from the mark.
The Lone Stars started the match on a bad-foot at the Chiedly Zouiten Stadium as defender Sampson Dweh was sent-off just nine minutes into time.
The red card for Liberia first division champions LPRC Oilers fullback was a big-blow for a team concentrated on recovering from a defeat earlier suffered against Mauritania last Friday.
But, Czech Republic-based Dorley penalty goal on the verge of the first half break was enough to give 10-man Lone Stars a very hard-fought win over Libya.
The win is the first for Liberia against the Mediterranean Knights.
Libya defeated Liberia 4-2 in another international friendly back in May of 2008.
The Monday’s win was certainly a great revenge for the Lone Stars as head coach Butler continue to boost his team’s performance before embarking on the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers which is expected to kick start in September.
Liberia will conclude their international friendly tour when they fly to Oran on Thursday, 17 June to take on a local based Algerian squad.
The African champions for their part are preparing for the FIFA Arab Nations Cup.
