LEC Losses 61% To Power Theft, Promises To Climb Down High On Would-Be Violators.

The Liberia National Police in close collaboration with the Liberia Electricity Corporation has arrested a man identified as Quincy O.Boiley age forty and his team in the act of duplicating LEC’s two flat rate receipts.
Suspect Boiley,A resident of Clay Street was arrested on Friday 14:22hours after police obtained a writ of search and seizure from the court to carryout such exercise.
According to the Public Relations officer of the LEC Winston Bedell including Police Spokesman Moses Carter the suspect was also arrested with other items and has been forwarded to court for persecution.
The exercise Mr.Bedell told reporters came after the LEC observed that several of their flat rate customers were no longer returning to them to do their regular payments due to unspecified reasons.
The flat rate decision he told newsman was amongst other things meant to give customers flexibility as a result of the unavailability of meters in the Country which he noted they are working on but indicated that it was not a justification for some citizens to carry on unlawful act.
Up to date the Corporation is loosing 61% to power theft,49% in commercial and 11% to technical something he added is a huge sum of money the institution and the Country is loosing.
“We are very serious in the fight against power theft and along with our LNP counterpart, we will not relent in bringing to book the allege corporate”,Bedell noted.
Speaking at the LNP’s regular press briefing Police Spokesman Moses Carter Bragged that over the weekend they have made some progress in fighting crimes and abuse.
He named the arrest of Quincy Boiley a suspect of power theft, the launched of the July 1,2018 mob violence investigation in Ganta,Nimba County,the arrest of a woman identified as Mary Seaton,age 34 of the peace island community who beat her six years old child and due to the severity of the injuries sustained,the child later died on arrival at the hospital including on going police investigations of other crimes and violations among others as key steps and progress they are making to ensure the safety of all people in the territorial confines of the Country.
Despite some challenges Mr.Carter said the LNP will not hesitate to arrest violators in keeping with the laws as such he warned them to desist or prudent action will be taken against them.
” We remained resolve in ensuring that the safety of the people of Liberia are guaranteed, We will do noting to compromise the safety of our people, ” the police Spokesman added.
In the wake of several arrest and efforts been taken by the LNP in ensuring the safety of the people remains Paramount, crimes and other human right violations are still on the increase as more tangible, visible steps and financial, logistical support needs to be given to the police and other relevant agencies of government to ensure the practical safety and security of the people is felt to the core.
