Liberia: Fire Service Introduces First Female Fire Engine Motorist


For the first time in Liberia, the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has introduced a female motorist in the country.

Roda Weah was introduced during the dedication and opening of a substation in the Stephen Tolbert Estate, Somalia Drive in decentralizing the service’s operations in Montserrado County.

According to LNFS Director-General, Alex Dickson, the training and inclusion of a female motorist is in the spirit of a sensitive approach in actualizing gender equality among firefighters.

Mr. Dickson told reporters that females are potentials and could be seen when given the opportunity along with their male counterparts.

“We did this to serve as a motivation for other women to venture in this field,” Mr. Dickson said.

Madam Weah, according to Mr. Dickson will be able to train other women to take on such a venture.
