Liberia Resumes Commercial Flight Operations at RIA

The first commercial flight, SN Brussels has landed at the Roberts International Airport with about 60 passengers on Monday night.

The flight according to the head of RIA Rev. Allan  Klayee is a test flight and brought passenger to Liberia from other parts of the world but did not leave with passengers .

Rev. Klayee  doubt that some of the passengers are from the USA as Brussels and the USA  is yet to  resume flight connection via their respective route.

At the landing of the flight, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah,  speaking to KMTV said, they have put in several health measures aimed at ensure those who arrived in the country are properly screen and monitored .

Dr. Jallah said the new RIA access protocol will require all passengers to arrive four hours before check-in time and all passengers must wear a face mask.

The Health Minister said only passengers with tickets will be allowed entry into the airport and will be  subject to mandatory screening. “All passengers will be required to wash their hands and passengers will be required to stand in marked spaces within the terminal area,” She said.

Liberia recorded its first index case via the RIA through Suspended Environmental Protection Agency Boss, Nathaniel Blamah.

Since the country shut down commercial flight operations, according to airport authorities it has made the country to loose revenue.

The head of the RIA  Rev. Klayee lauded President George Weah for ensure that over 70-percent of the staff salaries are paid and that staffs at the airport are retain and not dismissed from the entity despite what has happened at other counties around the world.

Our reporters who visited the airport  when the first commercial flight passengers arrived said, they observed passengers displaying their COVID passes , ahead to temperature checks for symptoms of COVID-19 ,  submitted their contacts numbers and registered with the airport mobile app to track and observed them for possible signs of COVID-19 while in Liberia.

KMTV has also learned  that on July 6 and 13 two other flights will arrived in Liberia from Europe and passengers are expected to also come from the USA .

To date, Liberia has now recorded 780 cases including 324 recoveries and 36 deaths with 422 active cases according to the National Public Heath Institute of Liberia

Health Measures and Protocols

  1. All passengers (Arriving and departing) will be required to have their temperature taken
    for symptoms of coviD-19 and register via phones numbers/Ussb/Mobile App.
    2. All arriving passengers who have been tested at point of departure must present a valid
    negative result document on arrival at RIA
    3. All arriving passengers who have not been tested at point of departure will be required to
    take a rapid test and a PCR Swab at airport.
    a. In the event of a positive rapid test result, the passenger will be placed in the holding unit
    at the airport pending the final PCR test result
    b. Passengers having negative results will be allowed to go home pending final PCR test.
    There will be continued symptom monitoring via UssD and Mobile App.
    RIA Access Protocol:
    1. All passengers are to arrive four hours before check in time

    4. All passengers entering the airport gate will be subject to mandatory screening
    5. All passengers will be required to wash their hands.
