Liberian Central Defender wins prestigious award in India.

As the Liberian government strives to make football gains its momentum in the country, Liberians playing around the world are not relenting in putting the country on the map of football.
One of such Liberian who is making headways in the Indian National League is a Central defender Varney Kiatamba Kallon Jr. otherwise known as Varney Kallon.
Kallon who plays for NEROCA FC in the first division league won best defender of the season in the presence of other nationals who are playing in India.
NEROCA Football Club is an Indian professional association football club based in Imphal, Manipur, India.
The club made its I-League 2nd Division debut in the 2015-16 season before being promoted to the first division level.
NEROCA Football Club won the 2016–17 I-League 2nd Division and secured promotion to the I-League.
It is the only club from Northeast India to reach the final of the coveted Durand Cup.
The hardworking Liberian defender Varney Kallon has been making history as he helped NEROCA FC emerge as champions of the I-League Second Division, the second biggest league in India after the Hero-I League and the India Super League.
The club is the first from the North-Eastern region to achieve such feat.
The Orange Brigade from the Manupuri region has been in the shadows of several clubs since their establishment in 1965.
But, it was in 2016 they managed to prove their worth after Kiatamba joined the club and they became an ambitious club playing in the Second Division qualifiers where they were outstanding as teams from all other states who participated in the competition.
kallon in his debut for the club in the 2017/2018 first division league perform brilliantly which convinced football lovers and the FA to crown him the best defender of the season.
He told newsman via mobile from India that he is happy to be a Liberian and winning a special award in the entire Indian among millions of players.
He said it is his hope to one day represent his country of birth, Liberia when he’s called upon.
“Yes it is my wish to play for my country and I know I am qualify and fit to wear the red, white and blue jersey just like the way I am wearing my club orange jersey,” he expressed.
The 25years old defender said it was hard work that made him to win the best defender of the season.
“It was the hard work and my excellence performance that made me to be named the best defender, and I am also proud to be a Liberian lifting my country flag higher in India,” he said.
With my experience Kallon indicated that he can help the Lone Star of Liberia to qualified for international competitions.
The Liberia Central-back club has help his club finish the ten teams league at the second position with 32 points from 18 games after nine wins five draws and four defeats.
He played 16 of the total games of his club and has been considered the rock of NEROCA FC defense,
Football Seasons in India run from November to May, with teams playing 18 matches each, with the totaling of 90 matches in the season.
The competition was formed in 2007 as the ONGC I-League.
It was done in an effort to professionalize the game in India.
The I-League is a successor to the previous National Football League and is regarded internationally as the primary competition in Indian football.
