LISGIS Boss Francis Wreh Presents Liberia’s Case and Rally Support For Liberia At The 50th Session Of The UN Statistical Commission ( STATCOM)


At the well attended international gathering graced by professional staliticians at the United Nations headquarters in New York,the United States of America, The Director General of the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo- Information Services ( LISGIS) Professor Francis Wreh March to the podium and presented Liberia’s case as far as statistical and other related works in the sector are concerned.

Professor Wreh in his deliberation stressed the need for international support to Liberia including the sector especially with the current challenges facing the Country’s economy.
Global and massive drop in the price of iron ore and rubber including the draw down of UNMIL and the Ebola virus crisis are amongst other attributing factors greatly affecting Liberia’s economy,noted the LISGIS boos.

However he pointed out that there are still hopes ahead for Liberia.
Mr. Wreh told his colleagues at the 50th Session Of The UN Statistical Commission that Liberia’s statistical house has already embarked on series of activities leading to the conduct of the population and housing census.

He said LISGIS has roll out several programs ahead of the main event to include: training of support staff and recruitment of enumerators and other persons of interest relative to the conduct of the National process.

He commended some international partners for their initial support to the initiative but more he noted needs to be done especially support base to help make a necessary impact.

The LISGIS boss said unlike in the past, the December census mainly the counting process will be done in a digital manner as report he added will be released sooner than before.
In a more appealing tune Mr. Wreh asserted that more support to Liberia is paramount to ensure Liberia’s economy is up to standard.

He also highlighted the harmonization of Sustainable Development Goals indicators of Liberia to the global body.
At the international ” STATCOM” conference which is the highest body in the statistical system where global statistical standards are considered and approved, Liberia’s Representative ( Francis Wreh) presented his case of his Country to the globe with the hope of interventions from some global partners soon.
The 50th Session Of ” STATCOM” discussed amongst other things: Report by the inter agency and expert group on the SDG indicators ( IAE-SDG),the highest level for partnerhsip,coordination and capacity building for statistics for 2030 agenda for sustainable development as well as a report on the implementation of the fundamental principles of official statistics and a report by the bureau for reviewing the structure and functions and groups operating under the auspices of the statistical commission.

Participants and members Countries are expected to formulate some appropriate and workable programs with needed support to help implement some of the needed programs and policies to move their respective Countries forward.
The strategist are vital to the globe especailly crafting appropriate global programs and indicators with a hope of addressing developmental issues world wide.
