The Liberia National Police is calling on the government for more budgetary support to ensure the smooth operation of the institution. Speaking at the start of a six-day retreat for Senior Police Officers , LNP Deputy Inspector- General for Administration Col. Sadatu Reeves said, the output of personnel of the LNP needs to improve to give them public respect.
Col. Reeves said, though donor partners have helped to strengthen the technical capacity of the Police Form Unit through the provision of vehicles, capacity buildings and Uniforms, there is still need for the provision of additional funding to run the institution. According to Col. Reeves, the Police will need around 30 million United States Dollars to effectively run the LNP, because around 14 million dollars of the 16 million dollars in the current budget is spend on salaries.
The Six-day retreat for Senior LNP officers is intended to set up a frame work for the full implementation of the new Police Act and set the LNP’s 2018 agenda. The retreat is being held at the National Police Training Academy in Paynesville.
