The Messengers of Peace Inc (MOP-Liberia) has graduated at least seventy five(75) participants from eleven (11) counties across Liberia after a one month Youth Peace Summer Camp.
The youth camp which came to an end on August 30, 2019, was held under the theme ‘Environmental Peace’.
The month-long Youth Peace Summer Camp focused on addressing issues of proper waste management and disposal habits, water and sanitation, and coastal actions among others.
This year’s edition was the 4th since the first edition was held in 2016.
The youth gathering also focused on some of the most recurrent issues by creating decent cities and clean environments.
Speaking at the official closing ceremony of the youth peace summer camp held at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Tourism in Monrovia, Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee emphasized the importance of peace within the country, and urged Liberians to maintain the peace no matter their differences.
He at the same time noted that with the collective efforts of every Liberian, the nation will become better.
Mayor Koijee extended gratitude to the Messenger of Peace for their immense contributions to the youthful population of Liberia over the years, and re-emphasized the Monrovia City Corporation’s commitment to supporting growth of young people.
Tennema Coleman, Head of Outreach and Public Awareness Department at the Environmental Protection Agency, urged the participants of the camp to at all times serve as agents of the environment.
She said, without peace there would be no safe environment, therefore Liberians should make it their responsibility to work collectively towards the safety of the environment.
Madame Coleman over emphasized the importance of proper waste management system, noting that the issue of waste management plays a major role to an enabling , healthier and peaceful environment.
Meanwhile participants of the just ended Youth Peace Summer Camp said the knowledge gained will be use to impact the lives of other youths in the country, and they will at all times keep the environment clean and peaceful.
The Messengers of Peace-Liberia (MOP-Liberia) is a non for profit, non government, voluntary youth-led Peace building organization established in (2008) to promote Youth, Peace and Security in Liberia.
The organization is the inaugural recipient of H. E. President George Manneh Weah national Peace prize which was given on the 18th of August 2018 at the Kukahtonon National peace festival.
