Ministry of Gender Conducts Awareness on SGBV in 4 Counties


The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection with support from the Sexual Gender Base Violence joint program through UN Women is conducting awareness within thirty communities across 4 Counties.

They including, Montserrado, Margibi, Bong and Nimba counties with high prevalence of domestic violence especially child abuse in Liberia.

Speaking to newsmen at the exercise in Kakata, Margibi County, the Research Officer at the SGBV section of the Ministry of Gander Mrs. Lovette Sie said ,the exercise is aimed at creating more awareness around the Domestic Violence Laws, increase community residents knowledge on the causes of domestic violence and how it can be prevented.

She added that the exercise is also meant to engage and encourage community members in selected communities to serve as agents of change and encourage reporting of domestic violence and all other forms of abuses.

Mrs. Sie noted that they have targeted thirty  communities in 4 counties where domestic violence is prevalent.

Speaking further, she stressed that at the end of the five days, community dwellers will be knowledgeable about the Domestic Violence law, incidence of Domestic Violence reduced in the selected communities, the most vulnerable, especially women and children knowledgeable about Domestic Violence, prevention as well as reporting mechanisms and increased reporting from the selected communities.
