NaFAA Boost Covid-19 Fight

Authorities of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) is ensuring that the fight against Covid-19 is achieved as staffs of all fishing vessels are vaccinated with the Johnson and Johnson vaccination as part of efforts to drastically eradicate the deadly Covid-19 virus which has claimed the lives of some Liberians since the second wave of the virus hit the world.

Making the disclosure Tuesday the Director General of NaFAA, Hon. Emma Metieh Glassco said more than 100 staffers from fishing vessels operating in Liberian waters were voluntarily vaccinated.

The two days covid-19 vaccination exercise held at the headquarters of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority on Bushrod Island began Monday August 9-10, 2021 and also brought together workers of cold storages and that of members of the Sea Men Union of Liberia.

According to a NaFAA press release employees of all the Chinese owned six Gouji fishing vessels participated in the Covid-19 vaccination exercise which was administered by a team of medical personnel from the Ministry of Health.

Some of those vaccinated against the Covid-19 were from fishing vessels including Gouji 828-13 staffs, Gouji 829-13 staffs, Gouji 831-13 staffs, Gouji 832-13 staffs, Gouji 836-15 staffs, and Gouji 837. Others came from the Dailian Hailian Sea Product Corporation in 72nd Paynesville City.

Hon. Glassco in the press release commended the Ministry of Health for responding to her request by sending a team at the head office to vaccinate Liberians working at sea as well as NaFAA’s Staffs and other foreign nationals operating in the fisheries sector of Liberia. Madam Glassco termed the vaccination exercise as timely and in the right direction of the fight against the covid-19 virus.

Mrs. Glassco disclosed that since Monday under a heavy down pull of rain, NaFAA’s staffs and along with the more than one hundred staffs of fishing vessels operating in Liberia que up for the Johnson and Johnson vaccination in the fight against the virus, particularly the deadly second wave.

The Johnson and Johnson vaccination exercise came about after some of the fishing vessels operating in Liberian waters were not going fishing because all the staffers were not vaccinated.

The NaFAA press release added now that all of the staffers are vaccinated they are not at high risk at as such, they could go fishing across Liberians waters.
