The President of the National Council of Churches in the United States of America Rev. James Winkler has called on American President Donald Trump to now institute a robust refugee resettlement program intended to help improve the conditions and status of refugees and immigrants in the United States of America.
Speaking at the opening of the 32nd General Assembly of the Liberia Council of Churches in Monrovia the man of God at the same time urged his President to resend all policies that are negatively impacting immigrants and refugees and to as well affirmed the importance of a welcoming policy for the sole purpose of benefiting refugees and immigrants.
He said their advocacy is not because it is the right thing to do neither because they are in solidarity with Liberians but it is as a result of a biblical fulfillment saying: We should welcome soldiers,the refugees and the immigrants adding that we should care for them as well.
” My nation has plenty of money and resources to help make sure Liberians living in the USA are living good and have a secure life”, he noted.
The world he told the gathering is experiencing an unprecedented migration crisis where 760m people are moving on.
However he pointed out that some Countries have offer a place of safety to those in the crisis why others have responded with xenophobic,racists and reactionary policies like the United States of America.
Making reference to the bible he uttered that “Jesus said for i was a stranger and you welcome me”, something he want to see happen globally.
The National Council of churches boss in the USA said his religious institution has opposed ill treatment of refugees and immigrants across the globe.
He wants the American leader to allan the USA with relevant international treaties and agreements that relates to migration including the Paris agreement on climate change.
Rev. Winkler speaking on the theme: Consolidating National Reconciliation and Unity; An Imperative for Sustainable Growth and Development praised Liberia for such great step taken and hopes his Country can learn from Liberia especially at this time where they have a lot of work to do in said direction.
In a more motivational and confident tune he assured Liberians that they are working to protect the status of Liberians living in the USA,adding that they are with them.
He apologise on behave of his Country for planning to send thousands of Liberians back to Liberia by 2019 but however noted that they are working with the new Congress to ensure that they protect the status of Liberians.
The National Council of churches in the United States of America was established in 1908 with thirty eight denominations consisting 30 million Christians across the United States of America and with more than 100,000 local Churches.
Amongst other things they seek Christian Unity,carryout inter religious dialogues with Muslims,Hindus Budists and Jews respectively.
The NCC- USA also raise their voices to the house of power on behave of Jesus as the chief activist of justice and peace.
The man of God added that they do practice and advocate careful stewardship of God’s creation.
Additionally they published the revised standard version of the Holy Bible as well as the the international Sunday School lessons.
His visit and participation of the 32nd General Assembly of the Liberia Council of churches is the first of its kind and has so far marked a new beginning for the LCC, says Senator Commany Wisseh.
In brief remarks the Rivergee Senator noted that at the Liberian Senate they have done so many things inconsistent with the word of God.
Making reference to the current impeachment saga he added that it is wrong, a bad precedence and unconstitutional thing to do as such it should be discouraged.
Senator Wisseh is amongst three other Senators who have taken the Liberian Senate to the Supreme court due to such matter.
He wonder why will a rule that has not been crafted serve as a basis for impeachment.
Despite political and or religious background he noted that once it is the wrong thing he will speak Against it.
He was also quick to challenge the Church to now begin speaking truth to power like it was done in the past.
