NEC Finally Declares Koung As Winner Of SSE In Nimba County


The Board of Commissioners of the National Election Commission (NEC) has officially declared Rep. Jeremiah Kpan Koung of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) as the winner of the Special Senatorial Election in Nimba after accumulating a total vote of 37, 899 (36.12%).

CPP’s candidate, Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh came second with a total vote of 34, 153 (32.55 %).

Meanwhile, Madam Gongloe-Weh who ran as the lone female candidate in the race on the ticket of the government’s main opponent the four Collaborating Political Party (CPP) on Monday filed a motion of recount of votes in Electoral Districts 4 and 5 over and alleged fraud and discrepancies.

As it stands, the case is said to have been transferred from Sanniquellie, Nimba County to headquarters of the NEC in Monrovia for further hearing.
