Liberian Government appears to be leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that she prevents its people and the Country in general from the further spread of the Corona Virus Crisis in the Country.
On Tuesday March 31, 2020, Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Smith Toby at a regular Press Briefing announced the arrival of huge quantity of testing kits that are already in Liberia.
According to him the kits were donated to Liberia by a Chinese philanthropist who recently donated huge COVID-19 preventive materials to Africa in support of the fight against the global pandemic as Liberia has now benefited its share and so are other African Countries.
Mr. Toby speaking to reporters Tuesday at his Foreign Ministry office stressed that the vigorous testing exercise which will be done by health authorities in various communities next week is intended to among other things test Liberians to know their status relative to the COVID-19 crisis.
Though he did not state clearly how the process will be conducted but noted that there are plans in the making by health authorities to prepare sites in Montserrado and Margibi Counties.
He told reporters that the exercise will begin next week with the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Stadium gymnasium in Paynesville already set for to jump start the process.
Recently Youth and Sports Minister D. Zeogar Wilson as part of a collaborative Government effort with other Line Ministries and Agencies to battle the COVID-19 Crisis disclosed the availability of the Ministry’s recent refurbished GYM facility to help the process.
Minister Wilson told our reporter recently that his Ministry is working very hard along with other institutions of government in effectively battling the virus.
Additionally, Smith pointed out that the Liberian leader was very instrumental in making sure the arrival of the huge testing kits to the Country.
The Deputy Press Secretary indicated that President Weah is hugely concern about the current crisis as well as the safety of his people.
President Weah according to Smith is encouraging Liberians to continue following all protocols and health measures for the betterment of the society.
Continue testing and hand washing among other things are key despite low cases, Smith added.
He said President Weah has provided an Executive mobile which was initially brought in the Country for his County tour purpose but due to the crucial nature of the health crisis, it is now plying various streets with other team members, conducting awareness about the crisis in Liberia.
Smith on the order hand dispel media reports that the Liberian leader went to Church on Sunday in violation of the health protocols something he noted was false and misleading.
Mr. Toby disclosed that President Weah as head of the special presidential advisory committee on the fight against the COVID-19 health crisis is implementing all health protocols and has so far restricted his appointments including the entertaining of guess among others.
He Wants Liberians to focus on implementing the protocols and not to politicize the crisis and avoid spreading fake news and information as well as doubts about the critical health crisis which is keeping health workers and world leaders on their heels as deaths, fears and scramble economy are the order of the Day.
Several other plans he noted are also in the making by National Government to prevent the further spread of the virus including ongoing discussions on closing land borders and many others.
