President Weah Extends Travel Duration Abroad to December 15, 2022

Letter in the possession of KMTV, dated November 18, 2022, is indicating that President George Weah has communicated to the Legislature informing the august of his stay out of Liberia up to December 15, 2022.

In the communication, President Weah said the extension of his stay out of the country is on the bases of other official International engagements that have besieged him while abroad.

It can be recalled the Liberian head of State
informed the Legislature informing lawmerks of his travel out of Liberia from November 1, 2022, to November 23, 2022, for international engagements.

In his letter, President Weah told the Legislature about his participation in the 5th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum which ” I attended in Paris, France, was extended from November 15, 2022, to November 18, 2022, thereby necessitating an adjustment in my attendance as a Guest of Honor of FIFA at the World Cup in Doha, Qatar from November 18, 2022, to November 30, 2022″.

Additionally, the president indicated in the letter that he was invited to attend the 13th Edition of the Peace and Sports International Forum in Monaco, France, as a Special Guest of Honor, from November 30, 2022, to December 3, 2022.

According to the letter, the Liberia leader will travel to the United States of America, where he will hold meetings with various business and political leaders of that country from December 4, 2022, to December 12, 2022.

“As you are aware, I have been invited by Mr. Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States of America, to attend the United States – Africa Leaders Summit scheduled to be held in Washington DC. from December 13, 2022, to December 15, 2022” the letter says.

According to the President, he will return to Liberia on December 18, 2022, whereas the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, Jr., will continue to Chair the Cabinet in consultation with the Vice President and via telephone consultation with him.

On the hand, leaders from across the African continent are expected to be in Washington, DC on December 13-15, 2022, for the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit.

According to the US Department of State Website, the Summit will demonstrate the United States enduring commitment to Africa and will underscore the importance of U.S.-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared global priorities.

The US Department of State also indicated that the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit will build on our shared values to better foster new economic engagement; reinforce the U.S.-Africa commitment to democracy and human rights; mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and future pandemics; work collaboratively to strengthen regional and global health; promote food security; advance peace and security; respond to the climate crisis, and amplify diaspora ties.
