President Weah Hails Arcelor Mittal Operations, But CSO, Citizens Grumbles of Bad Labor Practices


President George Weah has hailed Arcelor Mittal for helping to transform the country and boost job creation in Liberia .

As part of his ongoing tour to six counties, President Weah, while visiting Arcelor Mittal Concession site said, the company was doing a great job for the people of Liberia and Nimba County.


The Liberian leader said, with the technical education given by the company, many Liberians will be encouraged to  seek for jobs in the county.

He acknowledged that there are challenges associated with such business sector, but the industry is doing a great job, as he praise the  Ganta to Yekepa Road Project being carried out by Arcelor Mittal.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson of the Civil Society in Nimba County, Yan Flomo has expressed disappointment in Arcelor Mittal and asked President Weah to look at the developmental agreement.

He said the company is not living up to the agreement and refusing to provide some of the basic social needs for people in their concession areas.

Yan also noted that the company exceeded over Five hundred million tons of Ore when the price of Iron is now increasing on the world market in 2020, but citizens are yet to benefit from the social corporate contract.
