President Weah Withdraws Former Speaker Tyler’s Nomination

The President of Liberia has withdrawn the nomination of Mr. Alex Tyler from the Board of ArcelorMittal Operating Company with immediate effect.

According to an Executive Mansion release, a replacement nomination will be announced shortly by the Liberian leader.

The President’s decision to withdraw the nomination of Tyler comes barely days after his appointment which was characterized by widespread criticism in the opposition community and the media.

Mr. Tyler is yet to be cleared from the Sable Mining Corruption Case when he served as Speaker of the 53rd Legislature.

According to the indictment, Tyler and co-defendants were indicted based on the Global Witness, May 2016 Report that accused them of allegedly receiving US$950,000 to change the Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC) Act in favor of the British company, ‘Sable Mining’, to mine the Wologisi Mountain in Lofa County
