PUL To Celebrate 55th Anniversary In Gbarnga, Bong County under the theme: Strengthening Reporting on Trafficking in Persons, Improving Media Regulations


About Five Hundred Liberian Journalists across the Country will this Friday September 27, 2019 begin arriving in Central Liberia, Gbarnga Bong County as part of activities marking the Press Union of Liberia 55th Anniversary Celebrations as an organized media body.

This year’s anniversary according to PUL President Charles Coffey will be celebrated under the theme: Strengthening Reporting on Trafficking in Persons, Improving Media Regulations.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the celebrations PUL boss said the theme is very pivotal to present issues in Liberia mainly surrounding trafficking in persons which is alarming as well as improving   media regulations respectively.

Bong County Representative and Deputy Speaker Prince Moye is expected to serve as the keynote speaker while the entire legislative caucus of Bong County will be attendance including media and development  partners (INTERNEWS,USAID,ECOWAS, Government Officials among others), he told reporters.

Mr. Coffey assured media practitioners that preparations leading to the successful hosting of the event is in its advance stage.

Currently he added that the committee headed by Journalist Edwin Genoway for this year’s anniversary celebrations has already dispatched an advance team to the County nothing that finishing touches are now in the making.

He disclosed that Friday September 27, 2019 has been identified by the committee as departure date while other members from rural Liberia have already started arriving in Gbarnga.

On Saturday Mr. Coffey said series of discussions aimed at addressing the theme will be held as officials from the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) among others have all been invited to form a part of the program.

Moreover, he stated that there will be a worship service on Sunday, September 29, 2019 while Monday September 30, 2019 will mark the official celebrations which will begin with a parade through the principle streets of Gbarnga in Bong County and climax with an indoor program.

The annual anniversary celebrations of the PUL is where the professional body looked at activities of the body, members as well as issues and progress report during the year under review and to as well foster a common goal for the future.

This year’s celebration is taking place in an election year in which the incumbent (Charles Coffey) is seeking re-election and is been closely, heavily and politically battled by his controversial Vice President ( Octavin Williams) for the highest position in the Union.

Currently preparations leading to the hosting of auxiliary elections of the union are in the making before the central election later this year.
