Representative Hopeful Donates Movement Materials To Physical Challenge Citizens In District #10

Tuesday, September 27 was a jubilant day for physical challenge people in District 10, Montserrado County as a group under the banner of Friends of Alfred P.S Grear (FOAG) donated wheelchairs and crutches worth over USD$ 2,000 to physical challenge people in the district.

Friends of Alfred P.S Grear, the group that donated, said it was a way of helping the challenge citizens in dire need of the items.

Presenting the items in several communities of the district, the Founder of the group Alfred P.S Grear who is also a Representative hopeful of District 10 said the main goal of the organization in the next few days is to help disabled people.

According to him, he’s passionate about helping disabled people because many are his real friends in life.

“This is not my first time distributing wheelchairs and crutches to our disable people, and I will go to do more with the help as a good citizen to distribute many more of these same wheelchairs, crutches and portable commode throughout the district,” he said.

Grear said his organization’s donation to the disabled community in District 10 is to enhance the capacity of the physically challenged and buttress the government’s Pro-poor agenda.

“Given that disabled (people) are the poorest of the poor and we pray that this pro-poor agenda is not just a hypocritical rhetoric but something that will improve the disabled life,” he said.

“They as disabled, have suffered for too long. I have seen my brothers and sisters going through extreme difficulties on the streets begging for their daily bread.”

“They are fifth-class citizens in their own country. It is not a crime being disabled, and all we want for them is their share of the national cake which includes employment and a society that is accessible to them.”

The Founder of FOAG used the occasion to call on President Weah to improve the living conditions of the disabled communities in the country, citing public facilities like schools and hospitals as major challenges.

Samuel Vehn, a beneficiary of the items, said he was finding it difficult to get food daily due to the lack of a wheelchair and crutches. He noted that with the help of donations he can now go out to search for his family’s daily bread.

“I am happy to receive this wheelchair today from Mr Grear because my family sleeps many days on empty stomach due to the lack of a wheelchair and crutches,” he said.

Joseph’s mentee, another beneficiary of the items commended FOAG for the donation.

“From now onward with this nice wheelchair, my movement will be more accessible.”

“But at first, it was more challenging with my old wheelchair, especially moving among the rocks, but now it will be easier for me to move easily,” he averred.
