Nimba County: Lightening Strike Leaves Five Dead, Three Other Injured in Sanniquellie


At least five young children have been reported dead in Nimba County’s political capital of Sanniquellie.

The death of the five minors between the ages of 4 to 9 years have been attributed to a terrible lightening strike that took place at about 5 PM, Saturday evening, 30 October 2021 with three others injured.

The horrific incidence occurred in the Dahnlorpa, Community area.

The eight victims of the mysterious casualty are all connected to Mr. Lawrence Tokpah Sr., a defeated representative candidate of District #2 in the 2017 General Election.

Two of the five children that reportedly got killed as a result of the lightening strike are biological children of Mr. Tokpah with the other three being his closed relatives.

Dahnlorpa, is one of the biggest and densely populated habitation in the Nimba County’s capital.
In fact the community is one of the oldest in the City.

In order to stand in solidarity with families of the deceased youngsters who met their untimely demise owing to the Saturday evening’s tragedy, the Mayor of Sanniquellie City, Madam Maima Kamara has declared Monday, November 1st as a Mourning Day.

Mayor Kamara making the proclamation on Sunday, 31, October said: “it is the first time for such horrible incident to occurred in the City.”

As such, the Mayor pleaded with business people and others that there is a need for the observance of Mourn Day for victims of the devastating lightening strike.

This is the second time in just 15 months that an horrible incidence claiming the lives of many persons is happening in Nimba.

In July of 2020, a terrible motor accident took place on the Gbarnga-Ganta highway involving a taxi and a trailer leaving all six passengers on board the moron taxi instantly dead.

The taxi was headed for Ganta from Monrovia loaded with business people and goods.

Five of the six victims were residents of Nimba’s most populous City and business hub, Ganta.

Following that heartbreaking incidence, a day of mourning was declared by Superintendent Nelson Korquoi.

The victims of the Sanniquellie lightening strike were buried in a mass-grave on Sunday, October 31, meanwhile, the three injured children were being discharged from the G. W. Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie on the same day.
