Following Tuesday’s polls, the office of the National Election Commission (NEC) Lower Nimba magistrate on Wednesday evening began the tallying of consolidated provisional results from different polling places in the region.
According to Mr. Milton Paye, Magistrate of Lower Nimba, there is a total of 283 polling places in lower Nimba County. Out of that number, they have so far consolidated provisional results from 36 polling places comprising 12.72 percent of the total number of polling places.
There are seven candidates contesting for the Senatorial post in Nimba, and the votes obtained by each contender so far put Representative Jeremiah Kpan Koung of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction[MDR] in the lead with a total of 1,906 votes (47.9%).
He is followed by independent Candidate Mr. Taa Z. Wongbe who has so far accumulated 715 votes making up 16.5 percent.
Incumbent Senator Thomas S. Grupee has 636 (16.0%) and CPP’s Edith Gongloe-Weh 424 making up 10.6 percent.
As the consolidation of the provisional results from Lower Nimba County continues, there are still 247 polling places left to be counted.
