Thousands Benefited From Medical Outreach From The Liberia Albino Society


Pregnant Women,babies mothers and kids over the weekend benefited from free medical services in Buchanan City Grand Bassa County.
The one day health outreach was conducted by the Liberia Albino Society as part of their annual international Albinism day celebrations.
Beneficiaries walking with Multi- vitamin ,Paracetamol, Anti- meter care and among others shower praises on the Albino Society for such a timely and meaningful gesture.
According to mother Martha Davies one of the beneficiaries, it is her first time to received free medicine especially from a group,noting that she has not taken her daughter to hospital for over ten months due to lack of funding.
Speaking to reporters the Executive Director of the “LAS” Patricia Logan said their initiative is part of buttressing government effort in the health sector of the Country.
She said President Weah or any other top government official will not do all or go everywhere as such it is key that the government support other institutions like the Albino Society to assist them.
Madam Logan appeals to national government to increase her current budget which has been reduced by 100%.
“We had 150.000usd but currently it has been cut drastically to 75.000usd and we have a lot to do,she added.
She put the total cost of the drugs and food and non food items donated at about 6,000usd.
Some members of the Liberia Albino Society in Buchanan also benefited from their institution’s gesture.
Food and non food items to include: Rice,Beans,Oil,Soap,Sardine, Corn Meal and others were given to ” LAS” members.
The Liberian Government Hospital in Buchanan was a scene to witness as citizens flooded the health facility just to take advantage of the free medical services which they have not received for several years.
Meanwhile the Society in an effort to continue to render healthcare assistance to Liberians in general also broke ground for a ten bed room clinic in Four houses road community in Buchanan city.
The project which starts on Monday July 16,2018 will cater to members of the society and residents in general.
The fifty thousand health project by “LAS” will also have an office space and trained health workers.
“LAS” boss praised the pro poor government headed by President George Weah for helping their various projects and programs but was quick to add that they need more if their visibility should be felt across Liberia.
The Society will as part of their decentralization plans also move to Bong and other Counties soon.
